Choose your partners wisely,
for it is better to have a partner that you can go to war with, than one that will go to war with you.

for it is easy to find them when times are easy,
yet they vanish when times become difficult.

These are from a series I did for free for @econofoods_official a few years back, but I have added them to a series I am working on called “People of South Africa”, and I’m going to use them to tell you all a little story today that I pray gives you a little hope.
I have traveled to many places in this country so far.
I have lived with many people from many cultures with many different and sometimes conflicting beliefs. I have lived with racists of all races, religious people of almost all religions. Good people in bad situations, and bad people in good ones. Under bridges with the poor, and in mansions with the incredibly rich. I’ve seen things.
In this time I have seen that so many of us have become locked into thinking there is little hope here, that the enemy (whatever we perceive it to be), is too great. That the work is too hard. The damage too severe.This is not what I believe. I understand how easy it is for us to get into these states.Everywhere we seem to turn, the idolisation of catastrophizing abounds.
The radio, the Tv, the news, movies…social media.
All of these things are an easy pathway to defeatism and nihilism. A route to believing we should just give up. Burn a bridge instead of repair it. Run away. Hate instead of love. Fear instead of hope. Buy that product to satisfy our desires now, for who knows what the future might bring? It sells, and we are all buying into it.
In so many of the hard situations I have been exposed to, with people in terrible conditions, broken families, people consumed with an Insatiable desire for pleasure, for easy, for comfort, the enemy continues to work in peoples minds in very similar ways from what I have noticed. I don’t expect anyone to believe what I believe, but again, I have seen things, and I believe what I believe because all experience has shown me that God does exist, that he is always present in our lives. He is always trying to reach out to us, but the enemy gets in the way of this. It tries to get us to doubt this at all times.
I know so many of the pains that people here are going through because I myself have lived through them as well.

He was a good boy.
A protector, and he loved children.
He loved playtime. He was big and gentle.
He never needed a lead with me.
He always listened, and I could train him without any treats. He would wait at the road and wouldn’t cross until I told him. He wouldn’t play with others dogs unless I told him it was ok, because he was a big bowser sometimes and the little dogs would bite at him.
He was talkative and would always sing with his howls.
Nobody could ever come near the house without first having to deal with him, and he made them know it.
I loved him.

You were an honourable soul.

I am grateful for this time spent here.
What a gift to have been in a place with so much life, potential and prosperity surrounding it.
In spite of all of its gifts, it is though mired by one common thread that I have noticed within so many like it,
“Love as an action”, a regard for the lives of others and the wellbeing and futures of children.
A true eye toward and respect for something higher than itself, a temperance of pride and vanity of those who dwell within them.
Slowly over time these gifts seem to become in the minds of those who have them, things they believe they are entitled to, and not gifts and stewardships that were placed In their care, to share and spread outward.
For some this regard still seems present, but for many others a growing vice has become them.
A persistent desire for the acquisition of more, for bigger, for better, all the while losing sight of what has already been attained and granted.
Behind so many of these gilded cages lurks a growing malice, a beast, a troubling ungratefulness and disregard for what is holy and true.

The next path he has put me on is leading me to an area in stark contrast to this, yet not far from its gated walls at all. I know that there my gifts are more important to share, for in places like this, more often than not, very much is expected, and very little is given, while amongst the downtrodden and seemingly filthy areas of life, the presence of God has always been more visible to me, and the closer to him I have always felt.

I am grateful for this time spent here.
What a gift to have been in a place with so much life, potential and prosperity surrounding it.

No matter what any person “claiming” to have liberal values tells you, this was a good man.
This was a father. A son. A husband. A MAN.
This man displayed more courage in his lifetime than I have seen amongst all liberals I have know in my lifetime combined. Most conservatives too
Many of us lacked the facilities to even comprehend how much he cared for people, but not in the way an enabler would.
The way a father would.
A father who wanted the best for others.
To see them reach their best potential
Not to feel comfortable in their sins, but to rise above them.
May God bless and carry his soul.
May he watch over his family.
May he compel us to forgive those that have allowed evil to become them, by pandering to their insecurities, and to protect ourselves from them.

May we see things for what they are, and face the darkness together.

In Jesus name I pray.
